Cooplands Bakery shutters 9 stores

This is part of its ‘in-depth review of the business’.

Bakery chain Cooplands Bakery has shut down nine stores across the UK.

The nine branches closing include Scarborough, Berwick Hills, Skelton and Great Ayton in North Yorkshire. Cooplands previously closed its stores in Lincoln including Woodhall Drive, The Hykeham Green Shopping Centre, Alford and Sleaford, and Houghton in Sunderland

Following the closure of its North East branches, a report by Yahoo! News said that Cooplands is proposing to make changes to its retail and bakery operation to help better position the business for long-term and sustainable growth.

“As a result, we have entered into a consultation process with a number of colleagues. We appreciate that this may be unsettling for colleagues and our priority is to support them fully throughout this process,” a spokesperson for Cooplands said.

Cooplands was founded in Scarborough, North Yorkshire in 1885 and has 160 bakeries and 12 cafes across the UK.
