Robots deliver meals door-to-door in Seoul apartments

The robots move at walking speed, with locked compartments that open only for the intended recipient.

Samsung C&T’s engineering and construction arm has expanded its autonomous food delivery service, allowing robots to deliver meals directly to individual apartment doors.

The rollout follows a pilot programme carried out last year at the Raemian Leaders One apartment complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

During the trial, Samsung C&T worked with autonomous robotics firm Neubility to test whether robots could deliver food to individual units within a residential complex.

After consultations with the residents’ council and the site management office, the company moved to a fully commercial door-to-door service, enabling robot deliveries to apartment entrances.

The robots operate at walking speed to move safely through the complex. Food compartments remain locked during transit and can only be opened by the designated recipient.

From this year, the service area has been extended beyond the immediate surroundings of Raemian Leaders One.

Integration with food delivery platform Yogiyo has connected the system to about 130 restaurants and cafés within a 1.2-kilometre radius.
