UK fast food market set for £68.7b growth by 2034

It is expected to rise at a CAGR of 5.58% over the forecast period.

The UK fast food market was valued at £45.16b ($60.65b) in 2025 and is forecast to reach £68.67b ($92.22b) by 2034, rising from an estimated £47.36b ($63.61b) in 2026, according to Market Data Forecast.

The market is expected to rise at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.58% over the forecast period.

The report identified the wider adoption of digital ordering systems and improvements in delivery infrastructure as major factors supporting market growth.

It also highlighted the rise of plant-based and vegan options as an opportunity for fast food operators looking to expand their menus and appeal to consumers seeking more sustainable food choices.

Figures from the Vegan Society show a significant increase in the number of people following vegan and flexitarian diets in the UK in recent years.

The report said fast food brands are responding by developing plant-based alternatives, including burgers, nuggets, and wraps designed to replicate the taste and texture of meat-based products.

Burgers and sandwiches accounted for the largest share of the UK fast food market in 2025, representing 38.4% of the sector.

The segment’s dominance was attributed to the popularity of these products across different consumer groups and their long-standing presence in UK fast food culture.

Home delivery was the largest service segment in 2025, holding a 48.7% market share.

The growth of delivery has been driven by widespread use of digital ordering platforms and consumer demand for convenience.

Drive-thru services are expected to record the fastest growth during the forecast period, with a projected CAGR of 16.4%.

The expansion of the segment has been linked to investment in new locations and the growing presence of drive-thru outlets in suburban and semi-urban areas where car ownership is higher.

Major companies operating in the UK fast food market include McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, Subway, Greggs, Nando's, and Pret A Manger, amongst others.
