Just Eat trials self-driving robot deliveries in Sunderland
The pilot will start with 12 restaurants on the Just Eat platform.
Just Eat UK is running a trial in Sunderland with robotics firm Starship Technologies to test autonomous food deliveries.
The pilot will start with 12 restaurants on the Just Eat platform offering robot deliveries to more than 11,000 households in the city centre.
Customers will be able to order a range of food, including burgers, British dishes, and bubble tea, with the orders transported by small self-driving robots.
When the robots arrive, they will play the “Did Somebody Say” jingle, which is associated with Just Eat’s advertising campaigns.
Starship Technologies operates over 2,700 delivery robots across 270 locations worldwide.
The company, founded in 2014, began operating in the UK in 2018 and says it has completed more than 9 million deliveries.
