Subway expands Grupo Vierci deal to operate in Spain and Portugal
It plans to open about 400 restaurants in Spain and 50 in Portugal over the next decade.
Subway has expanded its partnership with Grupo Vierci, the current master franchisee in Paraguay and Uruguay, granting the company exclusive rights to develop and operate the brand in Spain and Portugal.
The agreement marks Subway’s first intercontinental master franchise deal, linking operations in South America and Europe.
Grupo Vierci plans to open about 400 restaurants in Spain and 50 in Portugal over the next ten years, increasing Subway’s presence in the Iberian market more than sixfold.
Grupo Vierci began working with Subway in Uruguay in 2023 and in Paraguay in 2024. The company manages more than 300 restaurants across the Americas and has over two decades of experience in quick-service food operations.
The new deal includes rolling out Subway’s “Fresh Forward 2.0” store design and expanding its digital services in both markets.
Grupo Vierci expects to create around 200 jobs in Spain and Portugal initially, with more hiring to follow. Some Paraguayan professionals will also have the opportunity to join the teams in Spain and Portugal to support training and operations.
