Popeyes New Zealand opening renews Australia market entry talks

Its first restaurant will open in Auckland.

Popeyes has confirmed its entry to New Zealand, with its first restaurant set to open in April in Takanini, Auckland.

The first restaurant is slated to open late April 2024 in a 300-square-metre fitout in a prominent corner site.

With the opening in New Zealand, news reports of a market entry in Australia resurfaced. In 2021, news outlets reported that Restaurant Brands International and its representatives have contacted Australian food services business and private equity firms to “gauge their interest in bank-rolling the launch” of Popeyes.
