McDonald’s Malaysia to open 200 more outlets within five years

It is in the process of hiring 10,000 workers as part of the expansion plan.

McDonald’s Malaysia is looking to have over 500 outlets open in the next five years, revealing plans to open 200 additional restaurants nationwide within the said period.

Managing director and local operating partner Azmir Jaafar said the new restaurants would be in locations away from the 310 existing restaurants.

“For that purpose, we are in the process of hiring 10,000 workers from now on as part of our preparation,” he told local reporters during the chain’s national zakat (business tithe) ceremony.

The fast food giant’s Malaysian operations employs 15,000 employees throughout the country and has served more than 13.5 million customers monthly since its inception in 1983.

Jaafar reiterated that its restaurants serve halal food, having established an Internal Halal Committee in 2013 to monitor full compliance with standards imposed by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

“This committee works closely with relevant officials at JAKIM to obtain advice and guidelines for the preparation of halal, quality and clean food. The committee is also responsible for employee training to provide a clear understanding on the concept of halal,” he added.
