wagamama expands to India
The brand will open its first flagship in Mumbai.
Pan-Asian restaurant brand wagamama has officially launched its first outlet in India, opening in the Cambata Building in South Mumbai’s Churchgate district.
This marks the brand’s entry into the Indian market as part of a wider global expansion strategy.
The Mumbai location is operated in partnership with K Hospitality Corp, a major Indian food and beverage operator known for bringing international dining concepts to the country. The opening is part of wagamama’s broader plans for expansion in India, with Delhi NCR confirmed as the next destination.
Founded in London in 1992, wagamama is known for its Japanese-inspired menu and casual dining concept, with a presence in more than 18 countries. The Mumbai site retains the brand’s signature design, featuring an open kitchen, communal seating, and minimalist interiors.
The launch menu includes well-known wagamama dishes such as chicken katsu curry, firecracker chicken, ramen bowls, bao buns, gyoza, and plant-based options like bang bang cauliflower. More than half of the menu is vegetarian or vegan, with Jain-friendly items clearly marked to accommodate local preferences.
The brand said the menu will evolve over time to include India-specific innovations and seasonal offerings. Beverage options include fresh juices, cocktails, mocktails, and a curated wine and spirits list.
wagamama India will also align with the company’s global sustainability goals, focusing on plant-forward menus, responsible sourcing, and food waste reduction.
The Churchgate location is situated near key commercial and cultural landmarks, including Marine Drive and Nariman Point.
