Starbucks replaces cups with new compostable, recyclable materials
The redesigned cups will be rolled out in Europe in phases starting this May.
Starbucks is replacing its hot cups and lids in Europe that are home compostable and widely recyclable across 10 countries in Europe starting this May.
Starbucks EMEA partnered with Transcend Packaging, Qwarzo and Metsä Board to launch the new cups.
The cup was crafted from traceable wood fibre sourced from Northern European forests and features a silica-based mineral coating developed in Brescia, Italy. Production takes place at Transcend Packaging's facility in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, Wales.
The cups will be introduced in phases, beginning this May 2025, starting with Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and Hungary. The new cups are also expected to roll out in the UK and Ireland later this year.
