Bakers Delight and Too Good To Go celebrate 1 million meals saved

The initiative aims to save surplus food from going to landfills.

Bakers Delight and social impact company Too Good To Go have saved 1 million meals from going to waste in Australia.

Too Good To Go runs an app-based marketplace that connects consumers with surplus food from restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and other food businesses that would otherwise be thrown away. Businesses list unsold items at the end of the day as discounted "Surprise Bags," which customers reserve through the app and collect within a set window.

Bakers Delight franchisees have managed to recoup approximately $6.9m in retail value by participating in the programme.

“Our partnership with Too Good To Go shows how we can take meaningful action on food waste while supporting our franchise network and delivering great outcomes for customers,” Elise Gillespie, CEO of Bakers Delight, said.

The news comes as Bakers Delight runs its annual Pink Bun campaign nationwide, with proceeds from six-packs of Fun Buns sold from 14-27 May going to the Breast Cancer Network Australia to support people affected by the disease.
