KFC pilots drone delivery service in QLD
The initiative is a partnership between KFC franchisee Collins Foods, Wing and Yum! Brands.
ASX-listed Collins Foods expanded its digital and delivery offering, trialing the country’s first KFC drone delivery pilot in southeast Queensland in partnership with Wing and Yum! Brands.
Customers in Kingston, Logan Central, Slacks Creek, Underwood and Woodridge, can now order KFC through the Wing app with the franchisee supplying the chicken through its first cloud kitchen from a drone launch site. The service will gradually expand to include other nearby locations.
Wing's drones has a wingspan of 1.3 metres, weighs about 5 kgs and can carry packages up to 1.5 kgs at a speed of more than 110km/h.
Collins Foods said digital and contactless delivery are key growth drivers for the brand, now accounting for more than 16% of sales.
“We’ve seen a significant increase in use of our on-demand drone delivery service in South East Queensland. Wing made more than 100,000 deliveries to the Logan community in 2021, with many customers finding on-demand drone delivery especially useful as they stayed home, and relied on our contactless service to deliver the things they needed,” Dave Ojiako-Pettit, Wing’s city manager for Queensland, said in a release.
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience, so we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Wing to provide the Logan community this Aussie first,” said Kristi Woolrych, chief marketing officer for KFC Australia.
