Darjeeling Express swaps Kingly Court for Rupert Street in major Soho move
This move increases the restaurant’s capacity to over 150 covers.
Shaftesbury Capital has announced that Indian restaurant Darjeeling Express has opened at 36-40 Rupert Street, a 5,600 sq ft site between Soho and Chinatown, London, after relocating from Soho’s Kingly Court.
The move gives the restaurant more space, increasing capacity to more than 150 covers and extending service from lunch through to dinner.
The Rupert Street location places Darjeeling Express alongside restaurants including The Palomar, Speedboat Bar, and Evelyn’s Table.
The restaurant, known for its all-female kitchen and service team, continues to serve regional Indian dishes inspired by home cooking.
The menu includes established favourites such as Kosha Mangsho, a Bengali slow-cooked mutton curry; Prawn Malaikari; Methi Chicken; and Calcutta Kati Rolls.
The new site features an open-plan layout inspired by Kolkata restaurants, along with outdoor seating, a private dining area, and a larger kitchen designed to support events, private celebrations, and collaborations.
