McDonald's contributes $200m to Egypt’s GDP
Contributions are split across direct and indirect impacts.
Manfoods – McDonald's Egypt has released findings from an Oxford Economics report showing the company contributed more than $200m (EGP10.3b) to Egypt's gross domestic product (GDP) between July 2024 and June 2025.
The contribution was split across $27m (EGP1.4b) in direct impact, $140m (EGP7.3b) in indirect impact, and $31m (EGP1.6b) in induced economic impact.
According to the report, every $19,000 (EGP1m) of direct output generated by the company contributes an additional $120,000 (EGP6.2m to the broader Egyptian economy.
The company, which entered the Egyptian market in 1994, now operates more than 194 restaurants across the country.
During the July 2024 to June 2025 period, its restaurants welcomed more than 29 million guests. Visitor numbers grew 14% in 2025 to approximately 33 million.
On employment, Manfoods – McDonald's Egypt provided around 21,800 jobs during the same period, with every 100 employees supporting an additional 270 jobs across the wider economy.
The company delivered approximately 246,000 training hours and issued 546 certificates across fields, including food safety, communication skills, and management. Workers aged 15 to 24 make up 44% of its total workforce.
In education, the company has invested nearly $1.93m (EGP100m) in its dual education programme since 2011 and collaborates with Helwan University on a blended learning programme supporting more than 1,000 students.
The company said it plans to invest $15.79m (EGP819m) in 2026, covering new restaurant openings, IT upgrades, branch refurbishments, and a new headquarters. Over the next three years, planned investment exceeds $28m (EGP2.5b).
On sustainability, the company reported a 30% reduction in electricity consumption through energy-efficient kitchen equipment and a 7% reduction in water usage during the reporting period.
