Uber reportedly seeking to buy Getir Food from Mubadala

A sale would further Mubadala’s retreat from Turkey and strengthen Uber Eats’ foothold in the country.

Uber has agreed on the main terms of a deal to acquire Getir’s food delivery arm from majority owner Mubadala and has applied for approval from Turkish regulators, Reuters reports.

A sale would mark another step in Mubadala’s pullback from Turkey and would boost Uber Eats’ position in the country.

Getir provides ultrafast delivery of groceries and other on-demand services through its mobile app and is owned by investment firm Mubadala.

Any final agreement depends partly on an ongoing review by Turkey’s Competition Board, according to the report.

Mubadala recently sold Getir’s car-rental unit to local firm Tiktak, following Reuters reporting in September that it was in advanced negotiations on that sale and was also exploring divestments of Getir’s delivery and finance units as it considered a full exit from Turkey.

Uber, meanwhile, is expanding its footprint in the country. In May, it announced a $700m deal to take a majority stake in Trendyol GO and said it planned to introduce Uber Eats features to the Turkish market.

Getir and Trendyol are amongst the key players in Turkey’s food delivery sector, competing with Yemeksepeti, owned by Germany’s Delivery Hero.
