Ask Italian parent Azzuri Group unveils its Sustainable Dining Report 2023

One of their recent milestones was switching to regenerative flour for its restaurants.

Azzurri Group, the operator and owner of UK restaurant brands like Ask Italian, Coco di Mama, and Zizzi has released its third annual Sustainable Dining Report revealing it reduced its GHG emissions intensity by 9.7% in 2023 whilst expanding its restaurant portfolio.

According to its report, takeaway packaging is now 100% recyclable across ASK Italian and Zizzi brands with paper-based takeaway pasta bowls eliminating 48 tonnes of plastic from its supply chain and redesigned pizza boxes cutting over 145,000m2 of cardboard – equivalent to 16 football pitches each year.

Meanwhile, Coco di Mama brand’s partnership with Olio redistributed over 10,000 kilos of surplus food, the equivalent of almost 24,000 meals, across communities in the UK.

The group also launched a partnership with Wildfarmed, known for its end-to-end supply chain that offers a route to market for crops grown in systems that prioritise soil health.

“We started taking accountability for our menus by partnering with Foodsteps in 2022 to analyse the carbon footprint of our recipes with a view of increasing low carbon options and making this information more available to customers. Coco Di Mama was our first brand to analyse the impact of its full menu, and adding labels on its website to reflect the 60% of food options that are low or very low carbon in 2023. We then analysed the impact of our vegan swaps at ASK Italian, and launched a new section on the website to share key takeaways with customers,” Azzurri said.
