Starbucks China to cut Scope 3 emissions with AI and IoT
Over 7,500 Starbucks outlets are now connected to the new digital platform.
Starbucks China has partnered with energy solutions firm Univers to boost sustainability across its value chain.
The collaboration will enable Starbucks to monitor, measure, and reduce Scope 3 emissions across its supplier network through the use of Univers’ AI and Internet of Things (IoT) decarbonisation solutions.
Over 7,500 Starbucks stores in China are now linked to the new AI and IoT platform developed with Univers, allowing remote, real-time tracking of equipment like HVAC systems and lighting to improve energy efficiency.
Additionally, Starbucks and Univers will develop a supply chain carbon management platform to track carbon emissions across suppliers and products, including but not limited to milk, beverages, food, and packaging.
A separate tool—the Sustainable Dairy Digital Management—has been created to enable comprehensive carbon baseline tracking, decarbonisation planning, and implementation of pilot farm solutions.
