McDonald’s Philippines opens second sustainable restaurant
The chain said this is their first store in the country to adopt a modular system of construction.
McDonald’s Philippines announced the opening of its second sustainable “Green & Good” store, located in Mandaluyong City.
The restaurant is also the first McDonald’s store in the country to adapt a modular system of construction, allowing for “faster work in a controlled environment and promotes sustainability through reduced waste and impact of on-site construction activities,” the company said.
The store was built with repurposed and recycled material such as reclaimed wood, eco- pavers, and eco-bricks. Concrete fiber was also used as an alternative material to steel rebars on slabs, pavements, and driveways.
The Green & Good store also includes solar-powered lamp posts and photo and motion sensors as part of its utility efficiency solutions. Rainwater is also collected in a harvesting tank to be used for cleaning the store’s exterior. A “Bike & Dine” area is also allotted for cyclists, along with a repair station.
“We are committed to provide a better and more environmentally sustainable McDonald’s for our customers and the communities we are a part of. We recognize that there is a lot more to be done but through our Green and Good platform, we are a step closer towards finding innovative ways to keep waste out of nature and drive climate action.” McDonald’s Philippines president and CEO Kenneth S. Yang said in a media release.
McDonald’s Philippines opened its first Green & Good store in Manila City in April 2021.
