Bakers Delight trials smaller bakery models

It plans to reach 700 sites by 2030.

Bakers Delight has opened a new bakery model that aims to provide a lower-cost, high-efficiency format for franchisees, as the brand pushes to reach 700 locations by 2030.

The new model, which opened at Camberwell Place in Victoria on August 28, has a production area of just 38 square meters. Its key feature is the Metro Oven, a 1m-wide rack oven that enables multi-bake functionality.

The new format operates on less than 100 amps, compared to 140 amps of a standard bakery. The product range for the smaller bakery has been reduced to 54 main items, which the brand said covers approximately 90% of a standard bakery’s offerings. It includes a hot cabinet, a coffee trial, a dedicated third-party pick-up zone, and new signage.

The smaller bakery also just requires two bakers to operate.

David Christie, co-CEO of Bakers Delight, said that the new model will play a central role in the company’s vision in 2030.

“It’s early days yet, but this model is a great example of how our tried-and-true business can evolve to meet the needs of a new generation of customers and entrepreneurs,” Christie said.
