Starbucks rolls out sign language outlets in Saudi Arabia
Employees completed over 36 hours of Saudi Sign Language training through the LiajLehum Association.
Starbucks, operated by Alshaya Group across the MENA, has opened its first sign language outlets in Saudi Arabia in partnership with LiajLehum Association, an organisation focused on supporting people with disabilities.
The initiative aims to improve accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing customers whilst equipping Saudi partners with training in Saudi Sign Language.
The programme is also intended to support future employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
The first store has opened at Al Takhassousi – Awal Plaza. A second location at Riyadh Boulevard Reserve has been operating for the past two months and has hosted inclusive events that have drawn members of the Deaf community.
As part of the partnership, Starbucks employees completed over 36 hours of Saudi Sign Language training through LiajLehum.
Starbucks said it plans to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities across its stores in the Kingdom.
The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals related to social inclusion, economic participation, and the Quality of Life Program’s focus on accessibility.
The Riyadh stores become part of Starbucks’ global network of Signing Stores for deaf and hard-of-hearing customers.
The first such store opened in Malaysia in 2016, followed by locations in the US, China, Japan, and Kuwait, which launched its first Signing Store in May 2025.
