Japanese casual pub operator Watami acquires Subway Japan

They have also signed a 10-year franchise contract with Subway International BV.

Izakaya chain operator Watami Co., Ltd. has announced that they have acquired an interest in Japan Subway LLC (Subway Japan LLC) and made the company a wholly owned subsidiary.

Aside from this, they have also signed a 10-year franchise contract with Subway International BV, according to a filing by Watami Co. on 25 October.

The company also said that it will develop, in the future, the "Subway" business in Japan through its subsidiary, Subway Japan LLC.

In 2023, Subway Japan has recorded sales of ¥536m.

An izakaya is a casual Japanese pub that serves a variety of small dishes and drinks, creating a relaxed atmosphere for socialising and enjoying food.
