Hong Kong restaurants saw 37% uptick in takeaways supported by food delivery aggregators

34% of restaurants attribute 30% of their revenue to delivery platforms.

Almost two in five or 37% of restaurants saw an increase in takeaway business in Q1 2024, Deliveroo reported.

This growth was supported by food delivery platforms, with 43% of restaurants saying that 10% to 30% of revenue comes from food delivery platforms, whilst 34% attribute 30% of their revenue to such platforms.

With the recent ban on plastic tableware, 83.3% of restaurants believe that cost concerns could be alleviated by delivery platforms offering eco-friendly supplies at discounted prices.

With this, Deliveroo launched the Rooniverse platform offering sustainable restaurant supplies at a 30% discount for merchant partners, and is investing $500,000 into the platform this year.

Currently, 47% of restaurants are hiring, with 68% facing recruitment challenges. Of these, 61% said that delivery platforms help alleviate their staffing shortages.

In addition, 85% of restaurants believe that food delivery platforms will be as important, if not more, to their businesses in the near future.
