Tims China eyes 1,700 Popeyes restaurants in 10 years

It opened its flagship store in Shanghai.

Tims China has opened its first flagship Popeyes restaurant in Shanghai, marking its expansion in China with the goal of opening at least 10 more restaurants in the city in the coming quarter.

In a statement, Tims China added that it aims to open 1,700 Popeyes restaurants across China over the next decade.

“We are thrilled to open our first Popeyes restaurant in China, a milestone in our longer-term strategy to establish a strong presence across the country leveraging Tims’ infrastructure and operating expertise,” said Yongchen Lu, Chief Executive Officer of Tims China.

“Despite a challenging overall macro-economic environment, foodservice retail sales have been a bright spot in China’s post-COVID recovery – one of the sectors that has rebounded strongly,” Lu added.

The opening of the new store came less than six months after becoming Popeyes’ exclusive operator and developer in March 2023.
