Third Wave Coffee launches in Kolkata with triple café rollout
The company plans to add another five to six outlets in the city.
Third Wave Coffee has entered East India with the opening of three cafés in Kolkata—two located in Ballygunge and one in Salt Lake.
The simultaneous launch is amongst its larger single-city entries and indicates a longer-term push into the Kolkata market.
The company plans to add another five to six outlets in the city during the current financial year to expand coverage.
“We are also evaluating opportunities in other cities such as Guwahati, Ranchi, Patna, and Bhubaneswar as we deepen our market presence in the region,” said Rajat Luthra, CEO, Third Wave Coffee.
With more than 220 cafés across India, the Kolkata entry comes amidst rising demand for specialty coffee chains and organised café formats in eastern urban markets.
Kolkata, a major metropolitan hub, is being positioned by the company as an entry point for wider expansion in the region.
The new cafés are designed as multi-use spaces focused on coffee service and casual gatherings, aligned with Kolkata’s café and conversation culture.
The menu includes standard coffee offerings, single-origin brews, baked goods, and quick-service food items.
The Kolkata outlets also introduce additional dishes such as Turkish eggs, shakshuka, sourdough-based items, and lasagna, along with ordering and service through the company’s app-based system.
The company is also rolling out a dessert-focused format called “Third Rush,” featuring items such as layered cakes, tarts, mousses, cheesecakes, and a signature tres leches variant.
In the broader expansion plan, Third Wave Coffee has recently opened outlets in cities including Ahmedabad and Agra, as well as along transport corridors like the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.
It is also increasing density in existing metros such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mysuru.
The company is targeting about 100 additional cafés by FY2027, aiming for a network of around 320 stores nationwide.
