Greggs, Too Good To Go cut food waste with surplus meal scheme

They will also trial a new surprise bag scheme in parts of the East of England from late May.

Greggs and Too Good To Go, a marketplace for surplus food, announced that they have prevented more than five million meals from going to waste across the UK.

The companies claim that the initiative has also cut carbon emissions, estimating the savings are comparable to the emissions from thousands of flights around the world.

Greggs and Too Good To Go said they are exploring new ways to help save even more food from going to waste, with an exciting new Surprise Bag trial starting at the end of May in select locations across the East of England. The Surprose Bag contains a wide range of Greggs favourites in each Surprise Bag, from sausage roll to sandwiches and sweet treats.

The collaboration also supports their Greggs Pledge, the company’s own sustainability plan, of which one commitment is to reduce food surplus by 25% compared to 2018 levels.

Greggs partnered with Too Good To Go in 2021, and surplus food can be rescued from more than 2,000 of their shops via the Too Good To Go app at a discounted price.
