Starbucks cuts 1,100 jobs amidst bid to reverse sluggish sales
Reductions will apply to current support roles and unfilled positions.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced that the brand laid off 1,100 employees and several hundred open and unfilled positions as part of its restructuring plan and to revitalise sluggish sales.
“We are simplifying our structure, removing layers and duplication, and creating smaller, more nimble teams,” Niccol stated in his message to staff. “Our intent is to operate more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity, and drive better integration.”
As of last year, the company employs approximately 16,000 corporate employees globally, including 10,000 in the US.
