Foodservice traffic climbs after six consecutive quarters of decline

This is driven by deal-based occasions and PM snacks.

Foodservice spending in Australia rose 5.4% in the second quarter of 2025 (Q2 2025), whilst customer traffic edged up 0.2%, according to Circana.

This marks the first increase after six consecutive quarters of decline.

Traffic at full-service restaurants (FSR) fell 2.1%, but quick-service restaurants (QSR) grew 0.5%, and retail outlets increased 0.4%.

Spending rose across all three sectors, with QSRs leading at 6% growth.

Deal-based occasions played a key role in lifting results, growing 11% in spend and traffic up 8.6%.

Gains were spread across major QSR and retail chains, independent bakery and café operators, and even pubs and hotels.

The afternoon snack period recorded the strongest growth, with spending up 10.5% and traffic up 8%.

Popular items in this daypart included beef and chicken burgers, cola, ice cream, chips, and frozen drinks or smoothies.
