McDonald’s Japan lifts hair colour ban to attract workers

The new policy was introduced on trial in Osaka.

McDonald’s Japan business lifted its hair colour restrictions for employees in a bid to attract more workers, improve the working environment, and address labour shortage, local news reports said.

The chain previously had rules that required employees’ hair colour to look ‘natural’. The new policy was introduced on a trial basis at its outlet in Osaka. McDonald’s reports that the store had a three-fold increase in fresh recruits in April compared to last year.

In a recent financial statement, McDonald’s Japan reported a system-wide sales increase of 7% whilst same-store sales increased 5.3% in August compared to the same period last year.
